OSCE Chairman Steinmeier to Visit Nagorno-Karabakh

Steinmeier met Co-Chairs ofթ‚Թ the OSCE Minsk Group, Ambassadors Igor Popov ofթ‚Թ Russia, Pierre Andrieu ofթ‚Թ France, and Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, the personal representative ofթ‚Թ the chairperson-in-office onթ‚Թ the conflict, inթ‚Թ Berlin, OSCE press service reports.

թ§Չ‚-ժ“Steinmeier welcomed the recent improvements inթ‚Թ the upholding ofթ‚Թ the ceasefire. There was agreement amongթ‚Թ the participants ofթ‚Թ the Berlin meeting that a sustainable ceasefire and a return toթ‚Թ political negotiations remain indispensable. Todayթ§Չ‚-Չ„§s talks also served the goal ofթ‚Թ co-ordinating possible further steps towardsթ‚Թ achieving a settlement toթ‚Թ the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, also withթ‚Թ a view toթ‚Թ Steinmeierթ§Չ‚-Չ„§s upcoming visit toթ‚Թ the region,թ§Չ‚-Թ the statement read.

The violence inթ‚Թ Nagorno-Karabakh, an Azerbaijani breakaway region withթ‚Թ a predominantly Armenian population, escalated onթ‚Թ April 2. Baku and Yerevan have accused each other ofթ‚Թ provoking hostilities that led toթ‚Թ multiple deaths onթ‚Թ both sides.թ‚Թ The parties agreed onթ‚Թ a ceasefire onթ‚Թ April 5.
